NYX Luscious Lip Gloss Palette Review

My sister and I went on a NYX spree and we got ourselves a few of their Luscious Lip Palettes. There are quite lot of great reviews on these palettes all over the Internet and the swatches looked great as well. Since there was a sale on CherryCulture, we decided to give these palettes a try.

Packaging: The palettes comes in nice and sturdy, reflective black plastic casings. Looks very sleek. There's a clear window on the lid so we can see the colours of the lip glosses inside the palette. The palette opens with a latch and there's slim mirror lined on the top of the inside lid. There is a lip brush provided. Each palette weighs .25 oz (7.5 g).
Nice and sleek packaging. Very professional looking.

Ingredients:
Basically they all have the same ingredients.

The ingredients of the lip product is listed on the back of the palette.

Texture: The lip glosses have a very creamy and soft texture. Picking up the glosses from the palette with a brush is not a task. There is a slight oily feeling to the glosses and it's quite hard to get an even application. I guess a good lip brush might help in applying it better. The glosses goes on very pigmented except for The Naturals palette which goes on quite sheer. The Perfect Everyday Colors has very fine shimmers in them, The Nudes-Matte doesn't seem to have any shimmers and The Naturals is very glittery. It does settle in between lip cracks which can look really bad. On my lips, the lip gloss felt just like any other lipstick, a bit sticky but it's not something unbearable. I really think the lip gloss palettes lean more towards being lipstick palettes because of their pigmentation and texture (maybe they are a hybrid of lipstick/lip gloss, perhaps?).

Swatches: I have read somewhere on the Internet that swatches on the fingertips resembles how the colour is going to look on the lips. So, I am going to do swatches on the arm and also on my fingertips. Here are the swatches for each palette:

The Perfect Everyday Colors:
This palette belongs to my sister and she had already used it before I could took a picture of an unswatched palette. The colour of the palette in the picture taken is almost exact in real life. The lippies do have fine shimmers in them and the colours are very pigmented and creamy.

1 - cool shade of red.
2 - coral/brick red.
3 - i think this one is more like a mauve colour.
4 - a pinkish mauve nude shade. the colour reminds me of NYX's round lipstick in Tea Rose.
5 - a subtle pinkish brown nude shade. this colour reminds me of NYX's round lipstick in Thalia.

The Naturals:
This palette actually has a warmer colour in real life but the picture I took turned up a little bit on the cooler side. It has the most sheer pigmentation amongst the three palettes. It also have the most shimmer which does not show in the palette picture below but is very obvious in person.

1 - sheer brick red with gold shimmer (a lighter shade than no 4).
2 - golden peach with gold shimmer.
3 - sheer pink with silvery shimmer. goes on almost clear.
4 - sheer red with silvery shimmer.
5 - sheer brown with gold and silvery shimmer.

Here's a close-up picture of the palette. You can see the glitter in the lippies which is more obvious in person.

The Nudes - Matte:
This lip palette also has a warmer colour in real life. You can imagine the colour to be multiplied by 2 or 3 times in intensity to get the general idea how the colour actually looks like in person. The palette is truly matte because out of the three, this is the only lip palette that does not have any shimmer in them. The lippies in this palette is very pigmented and creamy.

1 - milky brown.
2 - a mixture of berry and mauve.
3 - peach.
4 - barbie pink. very striking.
5 - nude lip colour.

Scent/Flavour: All the palettes have this plasticky scent that I really don't like. I just couldn't ignore it no matter how hard I tried! I think in the description of the product, it was supposed to smell fruity but all three lip palettes have the same plasticky scent that really bothers me. It tastes that way too! Ewww! My sister said the scent is more of a rosy scent and she can live with it but I can't. Maybe that's why I am very put off by it since I cannot stand pungent rosy scented products. I found a trick to make the scent more bearable by putting on a scented lip balm on first, then put the lip gloss from the lip palette, then top up with the scented lip balm again. I really hope NYX will revamp the scent of these lip palettes in the future.

My verdict:
I really like the packaging of the lip palettes. To tell you the truth, that's what attracted me to purchase them in the first place. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of the lip gloss/lipstick inside the palettes because of the plasticky scent. The glosses are very pigmented and creamy but I didn't like the fact that it's quite hard to get an even application. I actually liked the fact that The Naturals palette goes on sheer but I don't like shimmers, so that's also a no go. If only the scent is much more bearable and there is less shimmer (The Nudes-Matte palette exceptional), I wouldn't mind using these lippies. Sadly, that is not the case so I guess I won't be repurchasing any of them again or any other colours.

Price: Retails at $8 but got mine at $5.99 during a sale (approximately) RM25 from CherryCulture  via MalaysianBeautyStore spree.
You can checkout the lip palettes at NYX's official website.
